How do you save on printer costs when your printer begins to flash “Empty Cartridge”

The cost of replacing inkjet cartridges and toner cartridges can becoming expensive, especially if you are printing regularly and need to change ink cartridges on a frequent basis. To save money and make your ink cartridge last longer I have listed a few helpful ideas.

These are 10 Helpful Hints to make your inkjet cartridge last longer.

Helpfull Hint #1 Save on ink by choosing fonts that don’t waste much ink and refrain from using bold fonts.
By choosing eco fonts you can reduce your printing costs as less ink is used to make the individual letter. Eco fonts have holes in the individual letters and are not made up of solid lettering. Choose “Ecofont” the green font that uses upto 20% less ink.

Tip #2 Print text instead of graphics. This alone can save you a considerable amount of ink. As text uses less ink and full page graphics drain your ink cartridges considerably. Try using a disk to store your images or a hard drive.

Help full Hint #3 - "Only Print What You Want" There is no need to print out graphics and text which you don’t need. Highlight the material that you would like to print and avoid printing images as a large amount of ink is used to print images.

Tip #4 Print in Black and White to save on printing costs. Colour ink cartridges are generally more expensive and when used to print graphics run out quickly. Even when you print black text or images the colour cartridge is used as it mixes all the colours to make a shade of black. Turn off your colour ink setting on your printer and use only black.

Tip #5 Use Print Preview. Before you print your selected page, check it! Save money on the cost of printing extra copies and avoid making costly errors.

Tip #6 By using high quality printer paper you can save ink in the long run, as it does not absorb as much ink as cheap porous paper.

TIP #7 Printer displays Low Toner warning ? No problem, just take the toner out and gently rock it back and forth a few times. This allows you to get extra copies from your toner cartridge as there is still toner powder left inside the cartridge.

TIP#8 Buy Multipacks and save on the cost of buying individual cartridges by as much as 30%. Buying your ink cartridges and toner cartridges in multipacks can save you a considerable amount of money and you always have a spare cartridge handy when you need it most. Buying Individual cartridges always cost more than multipacks.

Tip #9 When printing from the Web Select "Printer-Friendly" Pages. A web page has many unwanted images and text that don’t need to be printed as web pages are generally longer than normal document. Select your text and preview your page before printing.

Tip #10 Keep your printer nozzles clean.
Regular cleaning of the nozzle heads every few weeks can prevent the build up of dried ink in the nozzles and prevent them becoming clogged. If a colour ink cartridge is blocked and isn’t printing all the colours, remove the ink cartridge and with a damp paper towel gently wipe the bottom of the cartridge where the ink comes out to unclog the nozzle. This will help the ink cartridge dissolve the dried up ink and make the ink flow better.
